Partake in a Journey to Meaningful Contributions

Join us in the exciting journey of our Zero to Merge course - a comprehensive, four-week program designed to help you communicate effectively with Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) staff, identify existing problems, collaborate on open GitHub issues, and create Pull Requests (PRs) for approval.

Starting with a small cohort of participants, we'll embark on a journey of collaboration, learning, and innovation. Our program includes weekly live sessions, practical activities, peer collaboration, guided learning resources, continuous feedback, and mentorship.

Our Core Values

We stand for Empowerment, Collaboration, Inclusivity, Quality, Transparency, and Adaptability. We aim to foster an environment that is welcoming and supportive, emphasizing openness and mutual learning.

Who Should Apply?

While we value all forms of contribution, our program mainly aims at those wishing to merge code into CNCF projects. If you have some programming experience and an understanding of cloud native principles, we encourage you to apply. We seek enthusiastic learners, passionate about specific domains relevant to CNCF projects, who can dedicate 2-4 hours per week to the program.

What Will You Gain?

Through our Zero to Merge Incubator program, you will:

  • Understand the intricacies of CNCF and open source contributions
  • Identify issues in CNCF projects
  • Write, submit, and revise effective PRs
  • Learn to communicate and collaborate with project maintainers
  • Be part of a community that values diversity, creativity, and innovation

What if I can't attend all the sessions?

While we strongly recommend attending all sessions for maximum benefit, we understand that you may have other commitments. We'll record all sessions, allowing you to catch up later.

Do I need to have previous experience with CNCF projects?

No, previous experience with CNCF projects is not a requirement. However, familiarity with cloud native principles will be beneficial.

What programming languages should I be familiar with?

CNCF projects utilize various languages. PRs can be in any programming language, not just those commonly used in cloud native technologies.

How much time should I dedicate to the program each week?

We estimate a time commitment of 2-4 hours per week. This time will include attending sessions, carrying out activities, and collaborating with peers.

Can I still apply if I don't have experience in specific domains like networking or machine learning?

Yes! We welcome all individuals who meet our criteria, whether you're an expert in a specific domain or an enthusiast ready to learn.

What will I achieve at the end of this program?

Upon completing the program, you'll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute to CNCF projects effectively. You'll understand how to communicate with CNCF project maintainers, identify issues, and create meaningful PRs. We'll also provide an a Credly badge to celebrate your completion

Our next cohort will be in the spring season of 2025.
